Commentary:

I've been spending a lot of time in the studio this week -- I even got a chance to jam with the amazing local drummer, Andrew Dickson, who is usually off on tour. It went so well we are talking about doing something "serious" -- maybe even try to line up a gig in town. That would be cool.

Simultaneously, I am getting geared up for the annual holiday visit with Sam Byrd, which looks like it really will happen. I cannot tell you how excited I am! Additionally, we are also putting together a new Bandcamp album culled from last year's sessions. Stay tuned...

It's almost Christmas!

Of course, we have to get through this election first. I try to avoid politics on my blog, but please, America, do the right thing.

I am always impressed by your playlist, with both the breadth and the sheer amount of serious music that you manage to listen to over a short period. My own listening diet is far more restricted than yours, mostly jazz/soul/african/funk. Although I have a fair bit of free time I somehow don't manage to get that much listening in compared to you. Music is an extremely important part of my life and certainly your example is an inspiration to me to listen more.

By the way, I am grateful for your extended posts on Sun Ra's music. He's a perplexing artist for me -- his music seems to range from free jazz to memorable vocal tunes. I was very excited to have recently found both original volumes of his Nuits de la Fondation Maeght. I am bemused and befuddled by the 1st volume (haven't tackled vol 2 yet). His moog playing on The Cosmic Explorer is free form and aimless!

Keep up the good work.
