Sun Ra Sunday

This BBC documentary, Sun Ra: Brother From Another Planet, is fun but a little disappointing. It neither works as a compelling overview for newcomers nor presents anything new for longtime fans. Nevertheless, there's some nice footage, so it's definitely worth watching. Enjoy!

Wow! I was having Sun Ra Sunday of my own when I came across this wonderful series of Sun Ra posts. How did I miss this? It's almost like discovering an unread book on the man. Thank you - really great writing. The rest of the blog looks fascinating too.

OK - now you've messed up my morning's work but in a very good way. As well as Mr. Ra I'm enjoying your thoughts on metal, the Dead, Mary Halvorson and others. There's an almost uncanny similarity in our tastes with only really John Zorn, Wayne Krantz and ace Swedish metal band Meshuggah big in my life but maybe not so much in yours. Thanks again.

@ Jean K: Thank you so much for your nice comments. I'm glad to help ease you into a Monday morning. I admire Zorn and have a number of his records, I just don't listen to them much. Thanks for the reminder--I should pull some of them out. Meshuggah is a band I definitely need to check out--they're on the list. Music is the best!

Yes it is!
Rediscovering Gentle Giant thanks to your playlists. Also mining the whole Mark Hollis/late Talk Talk thing - extraordinary music.
